TEMPERATURE CHECK: BRAZIL
THE CATALOGUE
The Temperature Check Catalogue is a comprehensive ecosystem study. It is a printed and digital publication that:
Maps the Afro-Brazilian Art Ecosystem - Including artists, galleries, museums, community spaces, and cultural organizations.
Documents Critical Cultural Actors - Featuring interviews, essays by, and profiles of artists, curators, gallerists, cultural leaders, and patrons.
Analyzes Structural Conditions - Highlighting infrastructure, access points, barriers, and opportunities within the ecosystem.
Provides Advisory Insight - Distilling field research into guidance for collectors, institutions, and supporters of Black art.
Serves as a Cultural Archive - A long-term record of a vibrant, evolving period in Afro-Brazilian contemporary art.
Each two-year cycle of Temperature Check focuses on a different diasporic city — conducting on-the-ground research and producing a catalogue that documents what it finds. Over time, these volumes form something that does not yet exist: a sustained, cross-diasporic anthology tracking Black cultural production and patronage around the world.
